This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in skilled operations with the need to apply discretion and judgment. Work would be undertaken in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. Individuals may have some responsibility for others and provide technical advice and support to a team.

Course Outcomes

This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skill to:

·     Advance their interpersonal, communication and customer service skills

·     Develop the cultural awareness that is required by all people working in the hospitality area

·     Update their knowledge of the hospitality industry including different industry sectors and relevant industry legislation

·     Follow health, safety and security procedures

·     Provide food and beverage service to customers in a range of hospitality industry enterprises

·     Gain the skills required to follow key hygiene procedures which apply in hospitality

How long will it take to complete the course?

Usually participants take 12- 24 months to complete the Certificate III in Hospitality SIT30616 qualification.  The program can be completed sooner depending on experience and recognition of prior learning.

How will I be assessed?

As the program is competency based, competency is achieved through providing evidence of competency. You will be assessed against the performance criteria of each of the Units of Competence.

Participants will complete a range of assessment activities including:

·     Workplace projects

·     Third party verification of skills

·     Discussion

·     Investigative Research

·     Self Assessment

·     Workplace observation/demonstration

Entry Requirements & Fees

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

 

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:

 

Certificate II in Hospitality or other relevant qualification/s

 

OR with vocational experience assisting in a range of support roles without a formal business qualification.

 

 

After achieving this qualification candidates may complete a Certificate IV in Hospitality SIT40416.

 

Fees will depend on any recognition of prior learning, government support/subsidies etc. This information be discussed at initial interview and made clear to client at time of enrolment.
